Hi Reader,
What happens when you just don’t have the energy to make another decision, and others are counting on you?
Over the last few months, I have been navigating through some tough dynamics: things that I didn't want, things that I didn't ask for, and some things that were just downright unpleasant.
And you could be facing other unpleasant things pulling at your attention:
- Layoffs and reorgs
- Leading the team through uncertainty
- Hiring gaps and doing the the work of more than one person
And that’s just the professional side of things…
I spent several weeks in the “I just can’t handle another thing” mode.
So my mornings of yoga, movement, and the small rituals that ground me slipped for a week, and then two weeks...
We get busy. We get overwhelmed. And the first things to go are the very things we know to do. We tell ourselves these stories: other things feel more pressing. I'll get to it later. It doesn't really matter right now.
It feels responsible putting everyone else first. Being the one who can be counted on, no matter the cost.
And every time we drop our own practices to meet someone else's urgency, we hand a little of our power away. Not loudly. Not all at once. Unconsciously.
Taking the gym slot back can feel indulgent when your team is in crisis. The truth runs the other way. The care you give yourself is what makes you steady enough to lead. So how do you reclaim your power and move out of “I can’t?”
- One thing I know: "I can't" cuts off your best decision-making.
- One thing I did: I spent 30 minutes on a Sunday getting my gym time and yoga classes back on the calendar.
Rest and responsibility. Your own wellbeing and your team's. These were never opposites. They live together.
One small act of choosing myself by taking 30 minutes to schedule my movement.
Because I only reach my wisest, clearest thinking when I protect my own power first.
What is one thing you know supports you, that has quietly slipped off your calendar? Put it back this week. Notice what becomes possible when you do.
Always in your corner,
Megan
P.S. Helping high-achievers step back into their power is the work I love most, and I have two coaching slots open this summer. If you're ready to lead from authenticity and authority, instead of pushing and proving, I invite you to book a 15-minute Connection Call here to learn more.
